Access! 2017 Recap: Ramping Up for AAM’s 2018 Annual Meeting

Now that registration is open for the 2018 meeting, it seems like a good time to look back at the February 2017 conference. That is when the Association for Accessible Medicines (AAM) unveiled our new identity, shedding the name “Generic Pharmaceutical Association.”

“The Association’s new identity will improve recognition of the generic and biosimilar medicines industry as one of the nation’s great health care success stories. Medicines drive savings, not costs and we stand ready to work with the president, Congress, patient groups and others to create real and lasting health cost solutions.”

President and CEO Chip Davis,

We gave Access! attendees a sneak peek of the patient-centered “Medicines Within Reach” campaign, a multi-channel effort that has continued throughout the year.

With more than 700 participants, Access! 2017 brought together generic and biosimilar executives, industry professionals and, for the first time, representatives of patient advocacy groups.

American hero Captain “Sully” Sullenberger delivered a rousing keynote address. Speakers also included The Honorable Bobby Jindal and Neera Tanden of the Center for American Progress on “The Most Uncertain Political Environment Ever” campaign. Raeanne, one of the real patients featured in the “Medicines within Reach” campaign, shared her personal story of how generic medicines save money she can use to create a better future for her family.

Access! 2017 celebrated notable individuals who have expanded access to medicines, including Heather Bresch, Mylan CEO and outgoing chair of the AAM board. Sally Greenberg, Executive Director, National Consumers League (NCL) received a Champions of Access award in recognition of NCL’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that patients and consumers get the lifesaving and life- sustaining medicines they need. Richard Egosi, the executive vice president, chief legal officer and company secretary for Teva Pharmaceuticals posthumously received a Champions of Access award.

The 2017 event culminated in a private event at Universal Studios CityWalk.
